I fed my cats a ‘human grade’ meat diet for two months and they completely changed
There are many affordable cat food brands on the market, however, a lot of them contain little meat.
Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they need meat to survive and some brands pack their food with unnecessary sugars which makes them more appealing to cats.
With a recent health scare in one of my cats, I decided it was best to retry my all-time favourite food brand, Untamed, to see if I could notice any differences long-term.
Untamed is an online cat food subscription brand that offers “human grade” ingredients with no animal derivatives, no vegetable proteins, no grains and no sugars.
They gently steam cook their food to lock in the nutrients and flavours for cats and the subscription can be personalised.
With two cats, feeding both of them two to three times a day can be expensive but I believe investing in their food is the least I can do as an owner.
Untamed has many complete foods including chicken and tuna, and others in jelly which can act as a top-up for mealtimes.
This was the second time I had reached back to Untamed for food and I can see why, my cats went crazy for their food.
After not eating for a few days, Untamed tins were all he would eat and I had the satisfaction that it was providing him with all the nutrients he needed.
The brand claims by day one cats should be much happier because the food is easier to digest for them.
After two months, Untamed said felines should have more energy because they will have been eating high-protein whole meats and they were not wrong.
Both of my cats who have been eating the food for two months have way more energy than prior, have brighter eyes and their coats are so much softer.
I also really like that this food doesn’t need to be frozen like some other high-quality brands on the market as it comes in small tins.
I am always so shocked to find whole pieces of meat in the tins such as prawns and ham, compared to other brands which just look like chunks of brown meat in jelly.
The tins are quite hard to get open, and I have ended up having to throw away a few which would not open at all, which is costly.
The brand offers a personalised plan, with next-day delivery available and cancellation whenever you wish.
They also have a £8 trial box for anyone wanting to try the food out with their felines before investing in the subscription.
The food is quite pricey, with my two cats costing £100 a month to feed, not including the dry food they eat throughout the day.
However, the differences have been huge and I don’t think I will stop feeding them this food anytime soon.
